Students’ internship as an example of academic and social communities’ interaction

| Аннотация: | In modern society an integral part of the social community is its educational component. The progress of society is impossible without well-trained specialists, so the inseparable link between social and academic communities is obvious. A vivid example of such synergy is a system of internships developed within the curriculum for bachelor students of Penza State University specializing in translation and translation theory. The paper describes the types of internships (academic internship and industrial internship), their goals and objectives, the places where the internship is held. The role of the social community in educational process is highlighted as industrial internship takes place at the enterprises and organizations of the city of Penza, where students get acquainted with their job responsibilities and functions as future translators and interpreters and gain professional skills and work experience. The people in charge of the internship from the university and the enterprise discuss and approve of the students’ individual plans for the internship, perform advisory and supervisory functions and evaluate the students’ progress during the internship. Thus, the interaction of social and academic communities is made active. The result is skilled specialists ready to face challenges presented to them by society's development. | |
